LEADERCAL 2007-2013 is an initiative for the sustainable economic development of rural areas by improving the quality of life of citizens and creating an economic structure that diversifies the agricultural activity, all while respecting the environment and identity of territories.

To achieve these objectives the so-called “Enfoque Leader” (bottom up) is used, which enables the development of strategies and decision making in each zone, integrating the socio-economic agents in rural areas into supra-municipal entities called Local Action Groups (LAG).

In El Cerrato Palentino, the Community Initiative LEADERCAL began in May 2009 with the signing of an agreement between the Regional Department of Agriculture and Livestock of the Government of Castilla y León and the Development Group.

Previously, as stated in order AYG 1413/2008 of 14 June 2008 by the Regional Department of Agriculture and Livestock, the proposal submitted by the local action group ADRI Cerrato Palentino was selected by the Regional Government of Castilla y León to implement the local development strategy submitted in the region of Cerrato Palentino.

With a predicted investment of 7,269,600 €, of which 4,000,000 € correspond to public input, it will extend its activities until 2015.

Leadercal program is integrated into the axis 4 of the Rural Development Program of Castilla y León 2007-2013, and is financed by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development (EAFRD), the Ministry of Environment, Rural and Marine Affairs and the Regional Department of Agriculture and Livestock of the Regional Government of Castilla y León.
